To compare efficacy of bisoprolol and bisoprolol+metformin combination in patients with arterial hypertension (AH) and metabolic syndrome (MS).</p></sec><sec><title>Material and methods</title><p>Material and methods. 20 patients with AH and MS were involved in the study. They were randomized in 2 groups, 10 patients in each group. Patients of the 1st group received bisoprolol. Patients of the 2nd group received combination of bisoprolol and metformin. Blood pressure (BP), body mass index (BMI), carbohydrate metabolism, lipid profile, microalbuminuria (МАU) level was determined before, within and at the end of 24-week treatment.</p></sec><sec><title>Results</title><p>Results. Both treatments resulted in similar reduction in BP. Reduction of BMI and insulin plasma concentration was more significant in patients received combined therapy. Both treatments improved lipid profile and reduced MAU.</p></sec><sec><title>Conclusion</title><p>Conclusion. Bisoprolol has positive effect on pathogenic mechanisms of AH and MS. Metformin additionally improves carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.</p></sec></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><sec><title>Цель</title><p>Цель. Оценка эффективности лечения артериальной гипертонии (АГ) с проявлениями метаболического синдрома (МС) β-блокатором бисопрололом и его комбинацией с метформином.</p></sec><sec><title>Материал и методы</title><p>Материал и методы. В исследование включены 20 больных АГ и МС, которые были разделены на 2 группы по 10 человек. В течение 24-х нед 1-ая группа получала бисопролол 2,5-10 мг/сут, 2-ая группа – бисопролол 2,5-10 мг/сут в комбинации с метформином 850-1700 мг/сут. До, во время и после лечения измеряли артериальное давление (АД), индекс массы тела (ИМТ), исследовали показатели углеводного обмена, липидный спектр, уровень микроальбуминурии (МАУ).</p></sec><sec><title>Результаты</title><p>Результаты. Отмечен значимый антигипертензивный эффект терапии и уменьшение ИМТ, наиболее выраженные у пациентов, получающих комбинированную терапию. К окончанию наблюдения концентрация инсулина снизилась у пациентов обеих групп, однако существенное уменьшение произошло у больных, получавших комбинированную терапию. Бисопролол и метформин улучшали липидный спектр крови и снижали уровень МАУ.</p></sec><sec><title>Заключение</title><p>Заключение. Терапия бисопрололом оказывает эффективное воздействие на патогенетические процессы при АГ и МС.
