The founders of the journal «Rational Pharmacotherapy in Cardiology» are Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Nephrology and Hemodialysis of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov, V.A. Rogov, and Professor R.G. Oganov, Director of the State Research Center for Preventive Medicine (now the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences. A great contribution to the formation and development of the journal was made by employees of the State Research Center for Preventive Medicine – Professor S.Yu. Martsevich and Professor S.A. Shalnova.

From 2005 to 2015, the editor-in-chief of the journal was Rafael Gegamovich Oganov. In 2016, Professor Sergei Anatolyevich Boytsov, director of the State Research Center for Preventive Medicine, was elected as the new editor-in-chief, and currently, he is an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, director of the National Medical Research Center for Cardiology. From  2023  Editor-in-chief of the Journal is Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, MD, Prof. Oxana M. Drapkina.

Stages of the journal development:

• 2007: the journal is included in the List of publications of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC).
• 2008: the journal is included in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI).
• 2011: the journal is included in the Ulrich's Periodicals Directory database.
• 2012: the journal is included in the EMBASE biomedical and pharmacological bibliographic database, as well as in the DOAJ directory of peer-reviewed open access journals.
• 2016: the journal is included in the Web of Science (ESCI) international database.
• 2017: the journal is included in the Scopus international citation base.

The journal «Rational Pharmacotherapy in Cardiology» is one of the leaders among cardiological journals in Russia. For many years, the Editorial Board of the journal has been guided by the principles of a strict selection of materials, independent peer review, as well as adherence to international rules and standards for the publication of biomedical research.

The journal «Rational Pharmacotherapy in Cardiology» was published by limited liability company «Capital Publishing Company» (STIKOM, LLC) since its inception. Since 2023, the journal has been publishing by SILICEA-POLIGRAF, LLC.
